Legacy Brunch One of Many Successful Events in September

September was a busy month for the East Carolina Alumni Association! We hosted several successful major events that brought students and alumni together to benefit ECU. Our Pirate Alumni Legacy Brunch on September 27 celebrated tradition and loyalty to East Carolina by honoring families with two or more generations of Pirates. This took place not long after our ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic golf tournament on September 25 and Buccaneer Buffet tailgate on September 26.

“I absolutely loved the legacy brunch! It was so cool to get to talk to other people who are legacies like I am,” said Sydney Parker, a freshman hospitality management major from Swansboro, NC. “One family that we sat with also had four family members that have attended or are attending ECU, just like my family does. It was so nice to just talk to people who have been a part of creating the Pirate Nation for so many years.”

Sydney attended the event with her mother Tammy Parker ’91, father Jackson “Jay” Parker ’85, and grandfather Willard Whitfield ’65. Sydney’s mom heard about the event through the alumni association’s marketing, and Sydney received an e-mail to her student e-mail account. They both knew they wanted their family to attend the event.

“I love that I am a fourth generation ECU Pirate and the fact that there was something for me and my family to attend that was centered around promoting that was so nice,” Sydney said. “I would definitely recommend this event to other legacy Pirate families. It is such a cool opportunity and one that I truly enjoyed attending.”
